This Covered Castle was built during the Renaissance in 1519 by the mayor of Poitiers, François Fumé.

The dressed stone used, the tufa as for the Châteaux de la Loire, and its Angers slate roof make it a remarkable and noble castle.

Like most Renaissance castles, the framework is medieval and the decoration is Renaissance.

From the Middle Ages the term Covered Castle remains due to the defensive military functions that provide good cover, i.e. solid protection against possible attacks.

From the Renaissance comes the interior decoration, especially with very large windows giving abundant light.

Built on 4 levels above cellars and underground passages, the Château offers approximately 600m² of main rooms for a total of more than 1000m².

On the moat floor are 5 vaulted rooms 6m high and paved, 2 of which have a period fireplace and 1 bread oven.

On the ground floor are the noble rooms. 5 majestic rooms 4.25m high with painted ceilings, parquet floors, paving and stained glass windows.
