Property Description
I'm Andy Portsmouth, the local agent here, and I'm very pleased to offer you in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region of France this 3-bedroom log house, in a private secluded location, yet only a 5-minute beautiful walk to the town's main square and cafés. With underfloor heating and a log-burner, this makes for a cozy and lovable modern house, with a fabulous and spacious main room opening to a large kitchen, plus there's a downstairs bedroom with private shower room/WC, then upstairs a large master bedroom, a shower room/WC and mezzanine bedroom or snug with a balcony and view. The house has views out over the valley toward the town, and the garden includes a wooded section, that you'll see in the video. There is private parking for three or four cars, and the house is connected to mains drains and water, is double-glazed, and ADSL internet is available. The house was built in 2018 using imported American cedar wood. Log houses are up to 15% more thermally efficient than conventional houses, with the wood acting as a thermal mass to store heat this means that it takes less energy to heat (or cool) the house. Cedar is also highly repellent to wood boring insects, and naturally resistant to fungi, bacteria, moisture and decay, and should typically last over a hundred years, so comparable to a conventional modern home, hence the popularity of cedar for log houses. Indeed, cedar is sometimes used in wardrobes and as coat hangers, due to being naturally repellent to moths. With its low moisture content and low shrinkage, cedar requires very little maintenance. The town of L'Isle Jourdain has about 1300 people, six café-restaurants, a bakery, garden centre, garage, supermarket, pharmacy, doctors and dentists, a swimming pool, water skiing and zip wires across the river Vienne. You walk from the house into the town centre along the old railway line, now a beautiful path (that you see in the video), over the viaduct and past the swimming pool and tennis courts. There are three cafés in the town centre, but there are also three more closer to the house, only a few minutes walk, so the location is a perfect mix of a secluded countryside setting, and being close to amenities. Walk the other way, down a country lane, and you come to the village of Le Vigeant, with a nice bar and great Sunday lunches.
