Thought to date from the 12th century and a protected historical monument since 1927, legend has it the tower was built in a single night by the Melusine fairy.
It might be useful if a reincarnation of the fairy were to wave her wand at the cottage as the current layout of the house would probably benefit from some reconfiguring to make the most of the space available and those fabulous views, but there is a total 148m2 habitable space to play with. Nearby La Châtaigneraie and Fontenay-le-Comte are also well worth visiting and the beach is just over an hour away. La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré are ideal day trip destinations, about a 1hr 15 min drive away. La Rochelle also has the nearest airport. The ferry port at St Malo is 3hr 20mins away.
