The other residents are a mixture of French and English - so friendly we have a hamlet WhatsApp group. The village of Montazeau boasts the best restaurant in the area - but little else. The nearby village of St Meard de Gurcon, just 5 minutes by car, has everything you need - a shop, boulangerie, pharmacy, garage, another very good restaurant and a doctor's surgery complete with district nurses. The nearest large supermarket is Intermarche in Port Sainte Foy and is 16 minutes away. The big Leclerc in Pineuilh is 18 minutes away. Sainte Foy la Grande is the closest large town, 16 minutes away, with all services, shops, bars and restaurants.
Access
Bergerac airport is 40 minutes away - Bordeaux airport is 75 minutes away. The local train station which will take you to Bordeaux is only 15 minutes away. The main stations at Bordeaux or Libourne are 60 minutes or 45 minutes. The closest ferry port to UK is Caen, with Brittany Ferries, and can be reached in 6 hours. Calais and the Eurotunnel is 8.5 hours away. The Atlantic coast is 2.5 hours to the west. Spain is 4 hours south.
