Property Description
Sainte Marie de Campan is a few minutes walk by footpath where there is a small supermarket, a bar, a pizzeria and hotel with restaurant. Two other hotels/restaurants are nearby. Bagneres de Bigorre has a cinema, a good range of restaurants, shops, supermarkets and a large weekly market. It is 15 mins drive to La Mongie, part of the largest ski resort in the Pyrenees (Grand Tourmalet) and to the Pic du Midi cable car. Further ski resorts are within an hour's drive e.g. Peyragudes accessed by gondola from Loudenvielle (45 mins), St Lary Soulan and Piau Engaly. The area is popular with cyclists. Sainte Marie is at the junction of the routes to the Col du Tourmalet and Col d'Aspin which feature regularly in the Pyrenean stages of the Tour de France. The Tour passes through the village most years. Nearby Payolle (10 mins) offers a number of attractions including fishing, boating lake, pont trekking, dog sledging and cross country skiing. For walkers there are a large number of nearby itineraries ranging from a few hours to overnight stays in refuges. The Falaise Trassouet rock climbing cliffs are located just along the lane.
The Spanish border is just over an hour away (via the Bielsa tunnel) giving easy access the Costa Brava. The French coast at Biarritz and the Basque country are about two hours east. Lourdes airport is 45 mins away with regular UK flights from Stansted. Toulouse airport is about two hours away.
The house which faces due south was built in 1981 in the traditional Campan valley style with a terrace and an upstairs balcony. The kitchen and both bathrooms have been replaced in recent years. The one on the first floor has underfloor heating, electric radiator/fan heater and automatic extractor fan. Hot water is provided by an electric hot water tank which automatically uses the overnight rate. The house is heated by a log burner with an integrated hot air fan supplemented by electric heaters. All appliances: cooker (electric oven with calor gas hob), extractor hood, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer are included. Furniture is also included.
