House Insurance Costs in France 2018
Friday 08 June 2018
How much might you expect to pay to insure your house in France this year?
According to recently released figures from the French insurance industry, the average cost of a house insurance policy in 2018 is €365 a year; for apartments the average is considerably lower at €225.
On a regional basis the figures show that Brittany has the lowest overall average house insurance costs (€290), whilst the highest are in the Ile-de-France (€440).
The higher number of burglaries and the larger number of more expensive homes are the main reasons for the higher costs of insurance in the Ile-de-France and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. In contrast, only 2% of all claims in France last year came from Brittany.
In the main urban conurbations those with the highest average rates (houses and apartments combined) are Marseilles (€300), Nice (€294), Nimes (€273) and Paris (€270), down to €175 for Rennes and €193 for Nantes.
The table below shows the average costs for each region. Actual costs will of course depend on a range of factors - size, type and location of property, value of contents, personal profile, and extent of cover.
