French Cheques do Nicely Thank You
Wednesday 01 July 2009
There is no such thing as a bank guarantee card in France, as a cheque must be honoured.
Cheques are still widely used in France, and using one is equivalent to paying in cash.
You cannot cancel a cheque because you have changed your mind, and if you do not pay a cheque for insufficient funds, then ultimately you can be barred from having a French bank account for up to five years.
Neither can you 'post-date' a cheque, as technically speaking, it can be cashed the next day!
You can read more in our guide to French Bank Cheques.
